Kishangarh, Late 18th century
Natural pigments on paper
5 x 5.5 in (12.5 x 12.2 cm)

NON-EXPORTABLE REGISTERED ANTIQUITY

PROVENANCE
From an Important Private Collection, Mumbai

Kishangarh has always been a sought-after School for collectors of Indian miniatures. This interesting tinted drawing would have been a practice sketch made by a Kishangarh artist. Three ladies are shown seated next to each other. One of them is seated on a throne holding a flower in her hand. Unlike regular drawings this also has traces of colour making it a tinted drawing, a type often seen in this school. The eyes are long slits but not hugely exaggerated as seen in the Nihal Chand period. Quite interestingly, some traces of practice outlines are also seen outside of the main subjects.
